يتناول الكتاب (ليبيا : دراسة في الجغرافية الطبية) والذي قام بتأليفه (الأستاذ الدكتور هلموت كانتر) في حوالي (260 صفحة) من القطع المتوسط موضوع (الجغرافيا الطبية لليبيا) والكتاب هو دراسة فريدة للأوضاع الصحية في ليبيا والتي كان حينها أرضا موبوءة بمختلف الأمراض وكان أبناؤها ضحية للعديد من الأمراض لمؤلفه الدكتور هلموت كانتر، زار الدكتور كانتر ليبيا خلال الفترة من 1933- 1965، في سبع مناسبات وأمضى فيها فترة بلغ مجموعها حوالي 3 سنوات وقام بعدد من الزيارات داخل البلاد، في قوافل صغيرة على ظهور الإبل وفي النادر باستعمال السيارات لمعرفة أحوال السكان وطريقة عيشهم وبشكل خاص للصحة والأحوال الصحية.
