يقول مؤلف الكتاب أن هذا الكتاب هو أول الغيث في الكتابة حول عملي الدبلوماسي في الفترة الممتدة من بداية عام 1977 إلى نهاية 2001 في كل من بيروت وطهران ونيويورك وبكين وأخيرا تونس وربع قرن من العمر مضى وانقضى على وجه التقريب قضيته خارج الوطن وأنا أرقب سير الأرزاق وجنابها وتعاقب الأقدار وصروفها وما تفعله بالبشر وتسوقهم سوقا إلى حيث تشاء وراء أستار الغيب المجهول ودون العواقب وهذا أنذا أستهلها بالكتابة عن عملي في الصين والذي استغرق ثماني سنوات كاملة وأعطيتها الأولوية على الكتابات الأخرى نظرا لأهميتها في التناول.
