هذا الكتاب يقتصر على أصول الأنساب وهي زبدة كتاب الجمهرة دون الخوض في فروع الأنساب وأصولها وبخاصة حذف أسماء الأمهات في سلسلة النسب فهو لا يذكرها إلا في القليل النادر خلافا لابن الكلبى الذي يظهر اهتماما كبيرا بهذا الجانب وهذا وقد كان حرصي على سلامة النص ثر من حرصي على التعريف بالأعلام والبلاد والإسراف في الشرح والتعليق إذ كان ذلك أهم مايحتاج إليه العلماء والباحثون عند الرجوع إلى الكتب المحققة وتحقيق الأنساب ليس بالأمر الهين ولا هو بالصعب ولكنه أصعب من الصعب لا يكاد يؤمن فيه العثار.
