يعد ديوان عدي بن حاتم الطائي من كبار الصحابة رضوان الله عنهم فضلا عن كونه من رؤساء قبيلة طيء في الجاهلية والإسلام ومن الرجال المعمرين فقد اختلفت الروايات في طول عمره فمنهم من قال إنه عاش مئة وثمانين سنة منها مئة في الجاهلية ومنهم من قال إنه عاش مئة وعشرين سنة منها أربعون سنة في الجاهلية.
