يتحدث هذا الكتاب عن الكميت بن زيد الأسدي في نظر النقاد القدامى والمحدثين حيث أن نص الكميت بن زيد الأسدي كحال غيره من نصوص شعراء كان موضع نقد قديما وحديثا بيد أنه من الشعراء القلائل في العصر الأموي الذين أسهموا بخلق رؤية جديدة في بناء القصيدة العربية لاسيما في قصائده الهاشميات واستطاع أن يقف في مصاف شعراء العربية الكبار لكنه كان في ذلك العصر عينه محبا لآل البيت عليهم السلام شديدة التتبع لهم مجاهرا بولائه لهم وهذا ما جعل الكتاب يركز على عرض النقود القادمة منها والمادحة قديما وحديثا لإعطاء القارئ صورة عن طبيعة مراميها.
