وقع تاريخ الرئيس المصري الأسبق \"جمال عبد الناصر\" عقب حرب أكتوبر بين مطرقة الناقدين الشامتين وسندان المتلقفين المنتهزين وأصبحت سيرته مصدرا للتندر والنقد الأشبه بمشاجرة كنتيجة للانفتاح وإطلاق الحريات والدكتور \"فؤاد زكريا\" أرقته هذه الحال وأقدم على كتابة عدة مقالات بهدف الخروج من هذه المعمعة التي سقط فيها الرأي العام وأراد أن يحولها إلى قضية تناقش بجدية ويطرح فيها الرأي والرأي الآخر بموضوعية واختار قضية اليسار المصري وعلاقتها بالرئيس \"عبد الناصر لكونها حجر زاوية في النقاش الدائر وقتها وليبين أن \"عبد الناصر\" استخدم اليسار ولم يستخدمه اليسار وأنه أيضا لم يسخر سلطته في خدمة الاشتراكية وإنما وضعها في خدمته مؤكدا أن خطأ اليسار الأكبر أنه فهم غير ذلك حينما انبرى للدفاع عن التجربة الناصرية التي لم تكن يسارية بالمعنى الصحيح.
