الكتاب معقود للنص الأدبي العربي تعريفا ومظان وأنواعا شعرية ونثرية وأجناسها كافة قديما وحديثا ؛ فهو يرصد، بإيجاز، أقسامها وشرائطها وسماتها الفنية، ويدل على أصيلها من الوافد معززة بشواهد كافية، ويهدي إلى أنماط وقوالب تجديدية وجديدة في فصليه الأول والرابع. فأما الفصل الثاني فيدرس النص القرآني كتاب العربية الأكبر من حيث لفظه ومعناه وأسماؤه ونزوله وكتابته وإعجامه وسوره وآياته وترتيبها مكيها ومدنيها ولغته وإعجازه متلوا بنموذج تطبيقي من قصة نوح -عليه السلام-أما الفصل الثالث فموقوف على الحديث النبوي الشريف خصائص فنية ومختارات. وأما الفصلان الأخيران فهما نظريان تطبيقيان، أحدهما للنص بنية وحدث ونموذجه قصيدة \"مصرع بلبل\" لإبراهيم طوقان، والآخر للوحدة العضوية في شعرنا القديم ونموذجها \"همزية\" ابن الرومي في أبي القاسم الشطرنجي.
