صدر هذا الكتاب في إطار اهتمام مركز البحوث والدراسات الكويتية بالتوثيق الفوتوغرافي لدولة الكويت، حيث يضم مجموعة فريدة من الصور التي التقطها مؤلفه خلال فترة تزيد على عشرين عاما من العمل الجاد، تغيرت بعدها مظاهر الحياة في الكويت وفي الموانيء الواقعة على شاطئ الخليج العربي، وغيرها من الموانئ التي كانت تصل إليها سفن الكويت الشراعية، وهي كثيرة وممتدة على ساحل الخليج وسواحل جنوب الجزيرة العربية، إضافة إلى سواحل إفريقيا الشرقية مثل موانئ ممباسا ولاهور وزنجبار وهذه الصور أصبحت الآن جزءا من تاريخ هذا العالم، عالم بحر العرب والمحيط الهندي، لأنها تقدم كثيرا من المعالم الحضارية في زمن معين لهذه المنطقة، وعلي نحو يعز على أي مؤرخ أو كاتب في التراث البحري وصفها على الوجه الأكمل الذي تنطق به هذه الصور الوثائقية.
