يتناول هذا الكتاب مرحلة خاصة من تاريخ حضرموت ويكشف الستار عن شخصية بارزة لم تتوفر عنها الكثير من المعلومات فقد كان له دور بارز في حركة الإصلاح التي شهدتها حضرموت ولا تزال بصماته موجودة في المجتمع الحضرمي لكن سيرة حياته وتفاصيلها ظلت مجهولة إلى حد كبير كما يهتم الكتاب بتسليط الأضواء على مجمل الأحداث والتطورات الاجتماعية والثقافية والاقتصادية والسياسية التي حصلت في بداية توليه حكم السلطنة القعيطية وأعماله العمرانية في حضرموت.
