يحاول هذا الكتاب دراسة الوطن العربي أبان الحكم العثماني عليه بين (1516-1916) منذ دخول العثمانيين الشام في عام 1516 وحتى اندلاع الثورة العربية الكبرى عام 1916 وانتهاء النفوذ العثماني في حكم الحجاز والولايات العربية وتزامن ذلك مع اندلاع الحرب العالمية الأولى (1914-1918) ووقوف الباب العالي مع الطرف الخاسر في الحرب وهزيمته ثم فقدانه لجميع الولايات والأراضي التابعة له سواء في الجانب الآسيوي-الإفريقي أو الأوروبي.
