الكتاب يتكلم عن التراث الشفهي الجزائري حيث التراث الشفهي المتمثل في الأمثال والحكم والأحاجي الشعبية الطويلة منها والقصيرة وكذا الألغاز يمثل بحق عقيدة ثقافة وفكـر أي مجتمع بشري على وجه البسيطة ولذلك تناوله العديد من المؤرخين والأدباء منذ عصور قديمة ماضية بالدراسة والتحليل وأفردوا له مؤلفات خاصة بغرض إعطاء صورة بينة عن المجتمع بعاداته وتقاليـده، والعادات والتقاليد التي يتسم بها الشعب الجزائري جعلت منه الوحيد الفريد من نوعه من حيث الصبر على المكاره والشجاعة والاندفاع والأخلاق السامية التي منها التسامح في غير مذلة أو مهانة.
