Overview
الكتابة المسمارية هي نوع من الكتابة تنقش فوق ألواح الطين والحجر والشمع والمعادن وغيرها. وهذه الكتابة كانت متداولة لدى الشعوب القديمة بجنوب غرب آسيا. أول هذه المخطوطات اللوحية ترجع لسنة 3000 ق. م. وهذه الكتابة تسبق ظهور الأبجدية منذ 1500 سنة. وظلت هذه الكتابة سائدة حتى القرن الأول ميلادي. كانت الطريقة الصوتية أو المقطعية الجديدة ملائمة جدا لكتابة اللغة السومرية بما فيها من أسماء وأفعال وصفات وأدوات نحوية إذ إن اللغة السومرية لغة لصقية، أي أن جذر الكلمات، وكان غالباً أحادي المقطع، يبقى دون تغير عند تغير الصيغة الزمنية أو شخص الفاعل بل يزاد إلى العلامة التي تعبر عن الأسم أو الفعل مقاطع صوتية أخرى قبل الاسم أو الفعل أو بعده ليحدد المعنى المطلوب.
