يتناول هذا الكتاب منهج الضحاك فقد أعتمد منهجه علي تفسير القرآن بالقرآن فكان يفسر الآية بنظيراتها ويفسر معنى قرآنيا بما يشاكله ويشابهه كما أنه كان يهتم بالقراءات في تفسيره لأن تفسير الآيات بالقراءات الواردة فيها تبرز المعاني القرآنية التي يحتويها النص القرآني بالإضافة إلى ذلك فإن الضحاك كان يأخذ بعين الاعتبار في تفسيره بمواضيع علوم القرآن منها ما يتعلق بأسباب النزول ومنها ما يتعلق بفواتح السور ومنها ما يتعلق بمعان القرآن كالمحكم والمتشابه والكليات القرآنية.
