لا يوجد لهذا الكتاب نظير اللغة العربية بمعنى أنه لم يؤلف كتاب مستقل عن أبي تمام الذي يعده عدد من النقاد رائد الحداثة الشعرية العربية في العصر العباسي والذي امتد أثره إلى شعرنا المعاصر. لقد كتب عن أبي تمام إطار الدراسات التي تتناول تاريخ الأدب العربي ولكن لم يكتب عنه كتاب مستقل على الإطلاق سوى هذا الكتاب الذي نقدمه اليوم لقراء العربية حول العربية يتناول الكتاب عصر أبي تمام من الناحية السياسية والاجتماعية والثقافية كما يتناول حياة الشاعر أبي تمام وثقافته ملقيا أضواء على جوانب هذه الثقافة المتنوعة كما يتناول شعره من خلال إبراز جوانبه الإبداعية المختلفة ويقف وقفات أسلوبية حول شعره ويعرض موقف النقاد القدامى والمحدثين منه كما يعرض للدراسات التي تناولت شعره في القديم والحديث وتأثره بمن قبله وأثره فيمن تلاه من الشعراء.
