يعد كتاب بنية النص الفني من القراءات التي تتنزل في إطار المقاربات السيميائية التي تتصدى لظاهرة النص بالمعنى السيميائي الواسع، ولذلك نجد أن الكتاب يقدم مقاربات عميقة لمفهمة الممارسات الفنية (الشعر، السرد، الصورة، الفيلم) في محيطها السيميائي-الثقافي، وهو بذلك يتجاوز القراءة البنائية المغلقة التي تكتفي بالبحث عن البنى المجردة في الأجناس الأدبية والفنية. يوري ميخائيلوفيتش لوتمان (1922-1993) منظر معروف في إطار مدرسة تارتو السيميائية للثقافة التي يعتبر من مؤسسيها الأوائل. وشغل فيها منصب رئيس قسم تاريخ الأدب الروسي من عام 1960 ولغاية 1977.
