يتناول الكتاب أسلوب فلسفي حول ما وراء الخير والشر يقول الكاتب لم أعرف قط عبارة أكثر لذعا من تلك أطلقها أبيقور على أفلاطون والأفلاطونيين عندما سماهم ب : ديونيسوكولاكس. وتعني حسب ظاهر لفظها : متملقو ديونيسيوس، أي زبانية الطاغية، ومتزلفون له، غير أنه يعني بذلك أيضًا أنهم كلهم ممثلون، وما من شيء جدي فيهم : إذ عبارة ديونيسوكولاكس كانت تسمية شعبية تطلق على الممثل. وهذا المعنى الأخير هو الفحوى الحقيقية للسهم الشرير الذي أطلقه أبيقور على أفلاطون : كانت تسيؤه هيأة العظمة وبراعة استعراض الذات التي كان يتقنها أفلاطون وتلامذته.
