تحكي القصة أن سيدنا \"لوط\" عليه السلام الذي هاجر مع عمه خليل الرحمن (إبراهيم) عليه السلام واستوطن مدينة سدوم ولكن أهل تلك المدينة كانوا أكثر الناس سوءا في الخلق فقد أتوا ابتدعوا فاحشة وهي إتيان الذكران من العالمين وتركوا ما خلق لهم ربهم من النساء حتى إن بعض الكفار الذين ابتعدوا عن الفواحش طردهم فنصحهم لوط وذكرهم بعذاب الخالق ورحمته ولكنهم زادوا تكبرا وعنادا فلم يفد خوف لوط عليهم من عذاب الله فقام بالدعاء عليهم وأن يخسف الأرض من ظلمهم فاستجاب الله وأنزل العذاب بهم.
