تحكي القصة أنه قد جاء \"هود\" عليه السلام لهداية الناس ودعوتهم إلى الهدى والطريق السليم وهو عبادة الله وحده وترك الأصنام وحاول بشتى الطرق ليهديهم وأخذ يطرح عليهم الأسئلة عن هذه الأصنام من مثل هل هي تنفعكم أو هل تسمعكم؟ هل هي تضر؟ ولكن وقف الجميع ضده وأجابوه بتكبر واستهزاء وكان هود يقابلهم بالصبر والتحمل واللجوء لله تعالى فقد استبعدوا أن تكون الرسالة من شخص عادي مثلهم وأصروا على ما كان عليه آباؤهم وأجدادهم من عبادة الأصنام.
