تحكي القصة أنه بعد دعوة نبي الله \"إدريس\" عليه السلام بعشرات السنين بدأ الناس يعودون رويدا إلى الجاهلية وينحتون الأصنام ويعبدونها إلى أن بعث الله فيهم رجلا صالحا منهم وهو سيدنا \"نوح\" عليه السلام فقام بدعوة قومه في السر والعلانية وبالترغيب والترهيب إلا أن كل ذلك لم يفد معهم فعاندوا واستكبروا وقد حاولوا قتله إلا قلة قليلة منهم كانوا فقراء وضعفاء آمنوا مع نوح عليه السلام.
