كان مولد النبي إسحق -عليه السلام- معجزة بحد ذاته، فبعد أن بلغ سيدنا إبراهيم وزوجته سارة من العمر عتيا، وبعد أن فقدا الأمل بأن يكون لهما ولد، أرسل الله تعالى ملائكته لتبشرهما بمولودهما القادم، وكانت الملائكة في طريقها إلى قوم لوط ؛ لتنفذ أوامر الله بتدمير مدائن قوم لوط بسبب كفرهم وفجورهم، وأكدت البشرى أن هذا المولود سيكون نبيا من الصالحين، وسيكون من نسله النبي يعقوب وأبناؤه، قال تعالى: \"فبشرناها بإسحق ومن وراء إسحق يعقوب\" (هود : 71) وقال أيضا: \"وهبنا له إسحق ويعقوب وكلا جعلنا نبيا\" (مريم : 49) وقد كان ميلاده بعد سنوات من ولادة أخيه إسماعيل -عليهما السلام-، وقد قر قلب سارة بمولد إسحق ومولد يعقوب من بعده، -عليهم السلام أجمعين.
