\"هناك ليال يحدث لك فيها أنك ما إن تنام، حتى يطير بك السرير نحو روسيا\" هذه العبارة هي سطر من قصيدة كتبها فلاديمير نابوكوف الذي عرف دائما بأنه أكثر الكتاب الأجانب أميركية، إلى درجة اعتقد معها الملايين من قراء رواياته أنه نسي روسيا تماما، لكن من قرأ واحدا من أجمل كتب نابوكوف، وهو سيرته الذاتية التي وضع صيغتها للمرة الأولى عام 1947 ثم عاد وطبعها وعدلها، مضيفا إليها بعد ذلك، سيكتشف بكل يسر وهدوء بأن نابوكوف لم يهجر روسيا أبدا بل حملها معه حيثما حل وارتحل.
