هذا الكتاب غاية في الأهمية ويعتبر مصدرا من مصادر التخريج وهذا الكتاب في شرح الألفاظ الغريبة في بعض الأحاديث الشريفة وهو استدراك وتتميم لما شيده أبو عبيد وابن قتيبة في هذا الباب كما قال الحافظ ابن حجر وهو يبحث عن كلمة وقعت في حديث ويتميز هذا الكتاب أيضا بأنه لم يطلع عليه أحد ممن صنف في الغريب بعد المؤلف كالخطابي وابن الأثير بل ولم يطلع عليه أصحاب المعاجم كالأزهري والصنعاني والزبيدي.
