إن لعمرو بن أحمر الباهلي مكانة عالية في (ديوان الشعر العربي)، فقد كان شاعرا فصيحا مقدما على غيره من الشعراء المخضرمين في فنون الشعر وغريبة، فاستشهد بشعره على اللغة كثيرا حتى لا يكاد مصدر من مصادرها يخلو من شعر له وجعله غير واحد من النقاد القدامى فوق طبقته ومع هذا كله غفل عنه مؤرخو الأدب ودارسوه لسبب أو لآخر، فلم يحظ باهتمام علمي، يليق بمكانته الكبيرة لدى القدماء ولابن أحمر أيضا مواقف ومنجزات، سعى الكاتب إلى دراستها دراسة متأنية، لعلها تكون يوما فاتحة لدراسات أخر ولعلها تلفت الباحثين والمؤرخين إليه، فيحظى باهتمام أكبر ومنزلة أليق.
