جمع الإمام النووي في كتابه \"الأربعون النووية\" الأحاديث التي عليها مدار الإسلام، واشتهرت هذه الأربعون وكثر حفظها، ونفع الله بها ببركة نية جامعها وحسن قصده رحمه الله، فدرسها الطلاب في مختلف الأمصار والأعصار، وقام على شرحها جمع غفير من الأئمة الأعلام، كابن دقيق العيد، وابن رجب الحنبلي، وابن حجر المكي الهيتمي، وملا علي القاري، والشبراخيتي، وآخرون. ثم قيض الله تعالى لكتاب الأربعين النووية علما من أعلام الأزهر، هو العلامة الشيخ عبد المجيد الشرنوبي الأزهري فكتب هذا الشرح اللطيف، الذي تجلت فيه طريقته الأزهرية ونفسه الصوفي الخاص، فجاء شرحه مكملا لما بذره فيه سلفه الإمام النووي رحمهما الله تعالى، ورحمنا بهما وبعلومهما.
