ينقسم هذا الكتاب إلى خمسة فصول يضم الفصل الأول دراسة لغوية للمعرب والدخيل ومفهومهما وانتقل الفصل الثاني لعلماء التعريب بين الأمس واليوم وتوقف عند مبدع هذا النوع من التصنيف وهو الجواليقي ثم استعرض أعمال من جاء بعده كالخفاجي والسبكي والسيوطي ودرس في الفصل الثالث التعريب قديما وكيف نقلوا من الحبشية واليونانية واللاتينية والعبرية والسريانية والهندية والفارسية والتركية مع نماذج لكل لغة وانتقل في الفصل الرابع إلى التعريب حديثا وكان مقصورا على اللغات الغربية بفعل الحضارة وبسط في الفصل الخامس ثلاث موضوعات في مرآة المعرب والدخيل وهي المعرب في القرآن الكريم والمعرب في الحديث النبوي.
