يتحدث الكتاب عن أن إثيوبيا تعد أقدم دولة مستقلة في القارة الأفريقية وأن جماعة الأورومو تمثل أكبر الإثنيات الإثيوبية وأغنى أقاليمها موارد حيث ضمت الإمبراطورية بلادهم أوروميا خلال الربع الأخير من القرن التاسع عشر، واستمرت المشكلة الأورومية بتداعياتها وآثارها حتى الآن فنظرا للعدد الكبير للجماعة وطبيعة الموارد الاقتصادية التي تتمتع بها مناطقهم وتمثل قومية الأورومو خطورة على النظام السياسي لذا عمد النظام السياسي إلى قمع هذه الجماعة ثقافيا وسياسيا واقتصاديا وعزز الأورومو نضالهم بعد معاناة استمرت قرابة قرن من الزمان في ظل الحكم الإثيوبي ثم تنامت حركة التمرد والإحتجاج وتوجت بإنشاء جبهة تحرير أورومو في السبعينيات.
