يتناول الكتاب الحديث عن أنواع مختلفة من الفهارس المستخدمة في المكتبات ومراكز المعلومات والتي يعتبر كل واحد منها مدخلا ومفتاحا لمعرفة مدى توفر وثيقة أو مادة مكتبية في المكتبة ومكان وجوده هذه الوثيقة أو المادة، مثل فهرس المؤلفين وفهرس العناوين والفهرس الموضوعي والفهرس القاموسي. من هذا المنطلق يأتي هذا الكتاب (الفهرست المفيد في تراجم أعلام الخليج) ليعرض لفهرس عبارة عن مجموعة تراجم مختصرة لبعض الفقهاء والأدباء والأعيان في منطقة الخليج العربي ويعرض الكتاب من هذه التراجم ما هو قديم استغرق وقتا واستنفذ جهدا حيث البحث في المراجع القديمة وأضيفت عليه بعض من تراجم المتأخرين وبعض من المعاصرين ويشير الكتاب إلى صعوبة العمل في مجال التراجم.
