يبدأ الكتاب بالحديث عن مرحلة العشرينيات وهنا يحدثنا عن السنباطي ونزوحه إلى المنصورة ثم إلى القاهرة والجزء الثاني من الكتاب عن مرحلة الثلاثينيات وهنا يحدثنا عن الصراع على قمة التلحين والغناء وأما الجزء الثالث من الكتاب فيناقش مرحلة الأربعينيات ويسلط الضوء على القصائد والأغاني الطويلة والجزء الرابع عن مرحلة الخمسينيات وأما الجزء الخامس يتناول مرحلة الستينيات وهنا يتناول الأطلال وولادة التلفزيون العربي والجزء السادس عن مرحلة السبعينيات والتي يتناو فيها جائزة أحسن موسيقي في العالم وأما الجزء السابع فهو عن مرحلة الثمانينيات وهنا يحدثنا عن مرض السنباطي ووفاته، والجزء الثامن والأخير يفرده للحديث عن فن العمالقة.
