كتاب يجلي مكانة العالم المؤرخ الرحالة أبى سعد السمعاني عند علماء عصره، وأنه كان من علماء المسلمين المتسامحين، إذ أخذ عن أعلام الشيعة والمعتزلة، كما أخذ العلم عن مجموعة من مثقفات عصره، كما يعرض البحث للصداقة الوثيقة التى ربطت بينه وبين ابن المؤرخ ابن عساكر، وأنه - أى السمعانى - كان حريصا على نقل صورة عصره في كتبه نقلا أمينا.
