يتحدث الكاتب ويقول يختفي وراء تأليفي هذا الكتاب شغف طفولي قديم لم أستطع كبح جماحه مذ أصبح رغبة ملحة ومؤرقة والحق أن صلتي بالجاحظ تعود إلى سنوات الدراسة الجامعية التي قضيتها في أواخر الثمانينات من القرن الماضي حيث يتناول الكتاب نظرية التواصل في التراث النقدي القديم الجاحظ نموذجا فقد ولدت لدي قناعة آنذاك أن أبا عثمان عمرو ابن بحر الجاحظ هو معلمة من معالم الفكر العربي القديم التي تستحق الوقوف عليها بالدرس والتحليل والاستفادة وهكذا بقيت تلك القناعة جاثمة في ذهني تنتظر الفرصة لولادتها الفعلية وبقيت كذلك لمدة تفوق عقدا من الزمن بسبب من ظروف العمل والابتعاد عن مدينتي مدينة العلم والعرفان.
