ظهرت الطبعة الأولى من كتاب : (فلسفة اللذة والألم) في القاهرة عام 1936 ؛ وبعد مرور بضعة وسبعين عاما على صدوره بقي هو المرجع العربي الأوحد عن المدرسة القورينية عامة، وعن مؤسسها \"أرستبوس\" على وجه الخصوص. شأنه في هذا شأن الكتاب الفريد الذي ألفه \"عثمان أمين\" عن (الفلسفة الرواقية Stoicism)، وصدرت طبعته الأولى في القاهرة عام 1944 ؛ وظل حتى هذه اللحظة هو المرجع العربي الوحيد في بابه، و \"إسماعيل مظهر\" (1891- 1962) مؤلف هذا الكتاب، علم فذ من أعلام حركة النهضة منذ أوائل القرن الماضي، وقطب من أهم أقطابها الذين حملوا على عاتقهم مهمة الإحتكام للعقل في مواجهة الخرافة، ورفع راية العلم في مواجهة الجهل، والانتصار للحرية في مواجهة الاستبداد والطغيان، إلى آخر هذه القيم الحضارية التي بدونها لا تنهض أمة ولا يتقدم شعب.
