يعالج الكتاب عددا من القضايا الحيوية التي باتت جزءا لا يتجزأ من البنية التحتية الفكرية في الوطن العربي. من بينها على سبيل المثال تلك الوقائع التي تؤكد ـ وفقاً للمؤلف ـ أن التغاضي عن المسألة الدينية في المجتمعات العربية، موقف لم يعد مقبولا. فالإصلاح الديني مشروع محتم وبالغ الأهمية وليس مكملاً للمهام الإدارية للدولة أو ترفا فكريا للمثقفين. ولا يجدي أن تلوكه الألسن فترة ثم تتحول عنه الى موضوع آخر. على هذا الأساس، يرى محمد الحداد أن هذا الموضوع ينبغي أن يتصدر قائمة الاهتمامات إذا ما قيّض له أن يتجه الوجهة الجديدة التي تستدعيها الخيبات المتعاقبة التي شهدتها البلدان العربية حتى اليوم.
