يتناول هذا الكتاب الذي نقلب صفحاته هذه الحاجة حيث يلقي أضواء على مشكلة تعليم كيفية القراءة من خلال تحليل شامل ومنظم لهذه المشكلة ويركز المؤلف من خلال ذلك على الأشياء التي يجب أن تقال في فن القراءة والنقاط إلي يجب أن توضح عند الحاجة لأكتساب مستويات أعلى من المهارات في هذا الفن إن معظم إبداعنا التعليمي والمال المنفق والجهد الذي يبذل هو على تعليم القراءة خلال الصفوف الستة للمرحلة الابتدائية. وبعد هذه المرحلة لا يوجد سوى تدريب رسمي قليل لحمل التلاميذ إلى مستويات ومهارات أعلى من ذلك. وإن الحاجة إلى كتاب كيف نقرأ في يومنا هذا تبدو شديدة لأن متوسط خريجي المدارس الثانوية إذا دخلوا جامعات يكونوا قراء رديئين وغير كفوئين.
