رواية \"كرسي الرحمة\" على أشجار الجنوب فاكهة غريبة دم على الأوراق ودم فوق الجذور أجسام سوداء تتأرجح مع نسيم الجنوب فاكهة غريبة تتدلى من أشجار الحور وفي عام 1939 غنت المغنية الأمريكية الشهيرة بيلي هوليداي هذه الأغنية التي حملت عنوان فاكهة غريبة والتي كتبها الشاعر آبيل ميروبول وعندما تقرأ هذه الرواية ستعرف أن هذه الفاكهة الغريبة ليست سوى أجساد بشر قامت بإعدامهم عصابات غوغائية وإجرامية من البيض يدفعها الحقد والتعصب العرقي الأعمى ضد السود في تلك الفترة من التاريخ الأمريكي المعروفة بحقبة جيم كرو وفيها سادت مجموعة من القوانين التي كرست مبدأ الفصل العنصري وتعود الكاتبة الأمريكية إليزابيث وينثروب إلى تلك الحقبة في روايتها \"كرسي الرحمة\" التي تجري أحداثها في شهر تشرين الأول من عام 1943 لتتناول الموضوع المؤلم ذاته ببراعة أدبية وأمانة تاريخية ترسم عبرها مشهدا أمريكيا جنوبيا خالصا.
