حاول هذا الكتاب الوقوف على بعض الأشكال النثرية الأندلسية التي ارتكزت على الخيال واتخذت منه إطارا عاما لها، في القرنين الخامس والسادس الهجريين، والمقصود بالخيال في هذه الدراسة هو الخيال الذي يجعله الأديب أساس الأداء في النص، أي الإطار الإبداعي كله، وليس الأسلوب الذي يستخدمه الكاتب لقضاء غرض بياني فحسب، ومن الأجناس الأدبية التي وقفت عليها هذه الدراسة : أولا : القصة بنوعيها الأدبي والفلسفي، ثانيا : الرسائل الأدبية، ثالثا : المقامات، رابعا : المحاورات والمناظرات التي أجريت بين الأزهار أو البلدان أو الأدوات، خامسا : الرحلات.
