كتاب مختصر يبحث في مشكل الحرية بصفة عامة ومدى تأثيرها على الفكر الفلسفي الإسلامي وغير الإسلامي. ينقسم الكتاب إلى قسمين القسم الأول يهتم بسرد أراء الفلاسفة غير المسلمين من إغريق قدماء إلى فلاسفة العصر الحديث وكيفية تعاملهم مع فكرة حرية الإنسان وقدرته وإرادته الفعلية وحور الخير والشر. وهذا الجزء من الكتاب غني جدا رغم اختصار المعلومة. أما الجزء الثاني من الكتاب فهو يهتم بالفكر الإسلامي ومدى تعامله مع معنى الحرية والإرادة الإنسانية. فيبدأ بقصة آدم وينتهي بزمن المعتزلة وجدلهم. ما يعيب هذ الجزء من الكتاب هو تكرار المعلومة لأكثر من مرة ومحاولة الكتاب ربط نقاط معينة ولدت ضياع طفيفا في المحتوى بصفة عامة الكتاب جيد جدا لمن هو مهتم بموضوع الحرية ولا يجد وقتا كافيا لقرأءة كتب مطولة.
