تتناول رواية الطفولة والصبا والشباب تأليف ليو تولستويحيث يقول المؤلف لقد أنجزت أحسن وأعظم عمل في هذه الحياة : ماتت دون أسف أو خوف ودفنت وفقا لرغبتها غير بعيد عن المصلى القائم فوق قبر أمي، وتزايد نمو حشيشة القريض والأرفطيون فوق الرابية التى ترقد تحتها، ويحيط بها سياج من الحديد الأسود، ولم أنس مطلقا الذهاب من المصلى إلى ذلك السياج والإنحناء في تبجيل على الأرض. وأحيانا أتريث في منتصف الطريق بين المصلى والسور الحديدي وتقفز إلى ذهني ذكريات مؤلمة، والفكرة التى تساورني هي: هل ربطتني العناية الإلهية بهاتين المخلوقتين لمجرد أن تجعلني أحزن عليهما إلى الأبد ؟.
