اللواء أركان حرب نصر محمد سالم، هو أول قائد مجموعة عملت خلف خطوط العدو لمدة 180 يوما، خلال حرب أكتوبر 1973، يتحدث عن تلك الفترة الهامة من تاريخ مصر. في البداية قال اللواء أركان حرب نصر محمد سالم، إن وظيفته الرئيسية هي جمع المعلومات وتقديره للموقف عن العدو، وذلك من خلال معرفة نقاط قوته وضعفه، موضحا تقدير الموقف وإصدار القرار المناسب في الوقت المناسب لأن طبيعة الضباط والصف ضباط والجنود لا بد من أن يكونوا على درجة عالية من الدقة في الأداء لأن طبيعة العمل لا تتحمل الخطأ وإلا سوف يتعرض كل أفراد المجموعة إلى الخطر. وأوضح أنه ظل يقوم بجمع المعلومات التي قدمتها مجموعات الاستطلاع عن العدو قبل الحرب من خلال الملاجئ والمعدات، ويتأكد ويتحقق من صحتها ومعرفة كل صغيرة وكبيرة عن الساتر الترابي خط بارليف لأنها كشفت الأوضاع الداخلية للعدو فأصبحت الضفة الشرقية للقناة ومسرح عمليات الجيش الإسرائيلي كتابا مفتوحا للقيادة العامة للقوات المسلحة.
