هذا الكتاب دراسة في الفكر السياسي الشيعي بمراحله الرئيسية الثلاث (تبني الفكر الشيعي الأول لنظرية الشورى، ثم نشور نظرية الإمامة في القرن الثاني الهجري ومواجهتها للتحديات، وآخرها وفاة الإمام الحسن العسكري دون ولد ظاهر)، واضطرار الشيعة الإمامية لافتراض وجود ولد دون أدلة تاريخية وشرعية كافية، ووقوعها نتيجة لذلك في أزمة الانتظار الطويلة التي امتدت أكثر من ألف عام، دون أن يظهر ذلك الإمام الغائب المفترض، مما أدى بالشيعة إلى القول بنظرية ولاية الفقيه، وتبني الفكر الديمقراطي بصورة كاملة.
