\"On May 18, 1291 Frankish Acre was taken by the Mamluks and destroyed, marking, as Prawer has written, the end of the history of the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem. As is well- known, during the preceding century Acre was a major urban centre, which served as the capital of the kingdom of Jerusalem and as a major commercial hub.
