تتناول هذه الدراسة سجل نقدي يديره السامرائي مستحضرا أبا الطيب المتنبي وشخصية أخرى لتحاوره ويطلق عليها أبا الندى ويجلس الثلاثة جلسة شعرية ليتحاوروا حوارا قوامه شعر المتنبي وموضوعات هذا الشعر يحتدم الحوار تارة ويبدو وديا حميما تارة أخرى يهدف في النهاية إلى تقديم شعر المتنبي بنزعاته الإنسانية حينا والمتعالية على غيرها حينا آخر ويقول السامرائي : وها أنا أعود إلى شعره باحثا أتفقد فيه حاجة تقيم صلة جديدة ليست صداقة ولا عداوة ولكنها صلة الإنسان بالإنسان يعاشره فتنعقد بينهما وشيجة رحم مادتها الإنسان.
