يتناول كتاب «أبو فراس الحمداني» حياته هو شاعر عربي شهير، وأحد أمراء الدولة الحمدانية، كان معروفا بين الناس بشجاعته وفروسيته ؛ لذا كان الناس يحبونه في كل مكان، وتحكي الرواية كيف وقع أبو فراس في حب «نجلاء الخالدية» إحدى الفتيات الجميلات في قصر الأمير، وكيف أشعل ذلك الحب الغيرة في قلب قائد الجيش «قرعويه» الذي كان ينافسه في حبها، فأخذ يضع الخطط والمؤامرات للتخلص منه، حتى تخلو له الساحة ليفوز بقلب نجلاء، وتدور الأحداث ويقع أبو فراس في أسر الأعداء نتيجة لمكر قرعويه وخداعه، ويتعرض للعذاب، فيقرر الهرب للقاء محبوبته نجلاء ومواصلة الجهاد، فهل سيفلح في ذلك ؟
