يروى سيرة الخليفة الراشد أبو بكر الصديق، فبعد أن فرغ الكاتب من كتابه حياة محمد وكتاب في منزل الوحي قرر أن يقوم بدراسة في تاريخ هذه الإمبراطورية الإسلامية وأسباب عظمتها وانحلالها، وما دفعه لذلك أن الإمبراطورية الإسلامية كانت أثرا لتعاليم النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم - وكانت سيرة الصديق هي البداية لهذه الدراسة، والذي جعله يبدأ بسيرة الصديق أنه كان صفى محمد - صلى الله عليه وسلم - وخليله، وكان أكثر الصحابة اتصالا به، وكان لذلك أكثر تتبعا لتعاليمه وامتثالا بها، وغير ذلك فهو رجل رقيق الخلق، رضى النفس، ثم إنه بجانب رفقه ورقته هو الخليفة الأول، وهو الذي أقر الإسلام حين حاول المرتدون من العرب أن يقوضوا أركانه.
