يسعى هذا المساق إلى تعريف الدارسين بموضوع علم الاقتصاد من حيث أنه علم الثروة، علم الرفاهية، علم الاختيارات الفعالة، علم العلاقات الاجتماعية في إطار الإنتاج والمشكلة الاقتصادية ومفهوم الحاجة والسلعة واستخدام وتطبيق علم الاقتصاد وكذلك نشاط الإنتاج من حيث مفهوم الإنتاج وحساب الإنتاج، وكذا عناصر الإنتاج، بالإضافة إلى نشاط التبادل من حيث أداة التبادل، موضوع التبادل وحيز التبادل. وكذلك نشاط التوزيع (التوزيع قبل الإنتاج كالملكية والعمل، والتوزيع بعد الإنتاج كالأجر، الربح، الفائدة، وإعادة التوزيع كالضرائب والرسوم) مع نشاط الاستهلاك (الإنفاق) ونشاط الادخار ونشاط الاستثمار وإضافة إلى التطرق إلى مفهوم النظام الاقتصادي، وبيان فلسفته ومذهبيته، مع توضيح أهدافه وآلياته.
