يعرض متحف الفن الإسلامي بالقاهرة تحفًا ترجع إلى الفترة الممتدة من أوائل القرن السابع الميلادي حتى أواخر القرن التاسع عشر، وقد أنتجت هذه التحف في دول عربية وأخرى لا تتحدث العربية، لكن يجمعها أنها بلاد إسلامية مثل إيران وتركيا والهند والأندلس وصقلية، وقد قام المتحف بسلسلة حفائر في مدينة الفسطاط، فكشف عن آثار من العصر الطولوني وأخرى من أيام الفاطميين. ويعرض المتحف أجمل ما تم العثور عليه، إلى جانب تحف أضيفت عن طريق الشراء أو الإهداء من هواة جمع التحف الأثرية. فيزخر ذلك المتحف بكل ما هو ثمين من تحف الفن الإسلامي.
