كتاب عميق يكشف بوضوح عن موسوعية العقاد وتمكنه من الفلسفة ومقارنة الأديان، وهو ضروري لكل باحث في العقائد، لا سيما وأنه يكشف في النصف الأول من القرن الماضي عن تهافت الإلحاد المبكر تحت وطأة الكشوف الفيزيائية المتتالية. يعيب الكتاب فقط اعتقاد العقاد بنظرية تطور الدين، وكأن الوحي نفسه كان يتطور كما تتطور الأساطير. وهذا أمر يستغرب كثيرا من مفكر واسع الاطلاع.
