يبدأ المؤلف مع بداية الحياة قاصا الحكاية من أولها مؤكدا أنه في الواقع لا أول لهذه الحكاية فلكل بداية بداية أخرى أقدم منها من هذا المدخل التشويقي المثير ينطلق الكاتب ليحكي عن أشكال الحياة الغابرة المختلفة من ديناصورات وغيرها مرورا بأﻷنماط البشرية المتباينة التي كانت تحيا على الأرض سابقة الجنس الإنساني الحالي ثم ينطلق المؤلف ليحكي قصة الحضارة البشرية بدءا من قدماء المصريين مرورا بالسومريين والبابليين والآشوريين ومن ثم يستعرض كل الحضارات التي تزامنت مع هذه الحضارات الأولية الغابرة أو توالت بعدها ومن خلال السرد القصصي المشوق لتاريخ العالم المختصر هذا.
