يوضح الكتاب إن الخطورة في الأمر أن جمهوريا بارزا مثل الرئيس السابق ثيودور روزفلت هو الذي رفع راية الإنشقاق بتأسيسه حزبا جديدا باسم \"الحزب التقدمي\" في عام 1912، كانت له فلسفته وأفكاره بشأن الإصلاح السياسي والإقتصادي والإجتماعي وهو ما عبر عنه بوضوح برنامجه الإنتخابي الذي دخل من خلاله منافسا للحزبين الكبيرين في إنتخابات عام 1916 الرئاسية فعبر عن أهمية ما عرفت باسم الأحزاب الثالثة في الحياة السياسية الداخلية الأمريكية.
