أليس فتاة في العاشرة من عمرها كانت تجلس مع أختها لميس ذات يوم في الحديقة ،انشغلت عنها لميس بكتاب كانت تقرؤه ففكرت أليس بصنع عقد من الياسمين نظرا لانشغال اختها عنها. وبينما هي في الحديقة رأت أرنبا يرتدي ملابس فاخرة ينظر إلى ساعته و يقول : ما هذا تأخرت كثيرا لقد انتصف النهار جرى الأرنب مسرعا بعد أن قال تلك العبارات ، تعجبت أليس منه كثيرا و رمت أزهار الياسمين التي قامت بقطفها و لحقت بالأرنب، وأثناء جريها سقطت في حفرة كبيرة، وسمعت حينها الأرنب يقول : شاربي، أذناي، إنني أخشى من غضب الأميرة لأنني قد تأخرت عن موعدي معها.
