من السمات البارزة التي تميز بها علماء الأندلس انكبابهم على علوم اللغة واللسان، وبراعتهم في فنون البيان والفصاحة ؛ فنادرا ما تجد فقيها أو محدثا ؛ إلا وله مشاركة في مجال الشعر والأدب، بل إن جملة من كبار فقهاء الأندلس بلغوا في ذلك شأوا عاليا ؛ كما هو شأن صاحب هذا الكتاب-الذي نزفه إلى عموم القراء والمهتمين-القاضي الفقيه الخطيب المؤرخ أبو الحسن علي بن عبد الله الجذامي النباهي المالقي المتوفى حوالي سنة 794هـ.، صاحب الكتاب الشهير الموسوم ب : (المراقبة العليا فيمن يستحق القضاء والفتيا)، فهذا العلم الفذ وإن برع في الحديث والفقه والتاريخ، وتقلد أعلى المناصب المرتبطة بالخطابة والقضاء ؛ إلا أن ذلك لم يمنعه من خوض لجج الفنون اللغوية والأدبية.
